Sara Duskin, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Sara is a British-trained nurse who has worked in the maternal child health field for 20 years. She did her lactation training at UCLA and is a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Sara has organized pre-schools and child development programs locally. Sara has worked at DayOne since its inception and sees parents for one-on-one consults, for support with breastfeeding, sleeping, developmental play, and parenting to get infants off to a good start. Sara also facilitates weekly new parent groups, offering her "common sense" support and counsel to new parents, who, she believes, know more than they think they know. Sara is married with three children, three stepchildren and eight grandchildren.
Caroline McGrillen, RN, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Caroline is a British trained midwife and heath educator specializing in Maternal Child Health with bachelor of Science in Professional Development of Nursing. Having received her RN license in California, she has worked with moms and babies as a visiting nurse. To enhance her expertise, Caroline obtained certification as a board certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Currently at work as a Lactation Consultant at DayOne San Francisco, she also teaches the prenatal Breastfeeding class and facilitates the transition of new parents by providing education and support in DayOne’s New Parent Groups. Caroline is the proud mother of four children who have brought her great joy as well as insight into the practical elements of raising children. She feels privileged to be able to blend her own personal experiences with her professional to provide support and guidance to new families.
Bonnie Rosenstein, CLE, Certified Lactation Educator, Service Coordinator
Bonnie is an UCLA-trained Lactation Educator, original member of the DayOne staff, and mother of two teenagers. Bonnie has worked with pregnant and new moms for over 15 years. At DayOne, Bonnie coordinates classes, instructors and educational materials. She enjoys answering breastfeeding questions via telephone and at the Center and providing support to DayOne’s wonderful families.
Heather Fraser, RN, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Heather has been an RN practicing in Maternal-Child Health for over 25 years and was inspired to specialize in the field of lactation with the birth of her 3 children. Becoming a Certified Lactation Educator in 1993, she has also been formally trained through the UCSD Lactation Consultant program and became a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2009. Heather loves helping new parents navigate their way through their parenting journey.
Palo Alto Lactation Team
Christie Brown, CLEC, Lactation Educator Counselor, Service Coordinator
Christie is a UCSD-trained Lactation Educator Counselor and has been working in the field of lactation for over 4 years. She came to DayOne after servicing families at the Mothers' Milk Bank in San Jose. Seeing babies thrive from breastmilk and healthy nutrition is the greatest reward any job can provide. As the Service Coordinator, Christie coordinates classes, instructors and educational materials. She also enjoys answering breastfeeding questions and welcoming families to the Palo Alto DayOne Center. Christie graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and currently resides in Palo Alto with her husband.
Cherie Zappas Tannenbaum, NP, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Cherie attended El Camino College and UCLA, and first practiced as an RN in a family practice office. She then returned to school and graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, as a Nurse Practitioner, maintaining her career focus on Family Practice. About ten years ago, Cherie sought out further education in order to help families maximize their potential for successful breastfeeding, and became certified as a Lactation Educator. She is now honored to be an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). As participants in her individual Lactation Consultations, New Parent Groups, prenatal Breastfeeding classes, and All About Pumping workshops quickly learn, Cherie is an experienced, knowledgeable, warm and empathic professional who dedicates herself to helping DayOne patrons make some of their first important parenting decisions. Cherie is the mother of four wonderful daughters, 2 of whom are twins, and lives in Menlo Park.
Walnut Creek Lactation Team
Linda Brooks RN, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Linda, an RN with over 20 years’ experience in maternal child nursing, has attended hundreds of births, beginning her career as a neonatal intensive care nurse at UC Davis Medical Center. After training at the University of San Diego, Linda became a board-certified lactation consultant and was a leader in establishing a world-class lactation program at the Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Before joining DayOne, Linda was a lactation consultant at John Muir Hospital and the Walnut Creek Women’s Health Center, where she earned great praise for her knowledge and personable, nonjudgmental manner. Linda is delighted to work at DayOne, a place she calls her second home, where “you can just drop in anytime for a quick diaper change or feel comfortable staying all day to chat with other mothers.” At DayOne, Linda facilitates a weekly Breastfeeding Support Group, several New Parent Groups and sees new parents for one-on-one lactation consultations. She also teaches the informative workshop All About Pumping workshop. Linda lives in Alamo with her husband, Mike. They have two college-age children.
Carrie Finger, BFA, IBCLC, LCCE, Lactation Consultant
After graduating from San Francisco Art Institute, Carrie spent several years as a successful abstract painter, before turning her creativity to being a parent, and supporting other parents. Carrie developed a passion for breastfeeding after becoming a mother. She worked for 12 years at a busy hospital in North Carolina, consulting with hundreds of mothers each month. She was a founding member of the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition, board member with Mid-South Lactation Association for a decade, and owned a private consulting practice, Blue Ridge Lactation, for 8 years. When her family left North Carolina and moved to the Bay Area in 2008, Carrie discovered DayOne. “I never knew a place like this existed. It is the environment that every new family deserves. I would have loved to have had the knowledge and non-judgmental support offered at DayOne when I was starting out as a new parent.” Carrie enjoys Lactation Consulting with new families at DayOne, facilitating New Parent Groups and teaching the Prenatal Breastfeeding class. Carrie is also a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and Lactation Program Director at Aviva Institute, where she designs and teaches several online courses in advanced lactation studies. Carrie lives in the Oakland hills with her husband and their 2 teenagers, who keep them active and texting.
Lindsey O’Connell, Certified Lactation Assistant, Service Coordinator
Lindsey is the Service Coordinator for the Walnut Creek DayOne center, overseeing the instructors and functioning as a Lactation Assistant, answering breastfeeding and new parenting questions. She joined DayOne after learning about the resources and lactation support that are offered to new families. In addition to her role at DayOne, Lindsey, a certified postpartum doula through Doulas of North America International, provides postpartum care to private clients through Mother Baby Connection. In both roles, Lindsey loves interacting with different types of families and says she learns something new from every parent she meets. Lindsey earned her degree in Social Science and Human Development. She and her husband reside in Walnut Creek.
