Experiencing Childbirth

fetus inside woman; mom with newbornChildbirth is one of the most incredible events most women and their partners will ever experience. Bringing a baby into the world is awe-inspiring, yet many women and their partners are anxious and fearful about what labor will be like.

Research has shown pregnant women who are prepared before birth experience less stress, anxiety and fear—which means they can also experience less pain and are more likely to have shorter, easier labors. Knowledge is power!

DayOne believes there is no one right way to parent, and that begins with choices made in pregnancy and throughout birth process. Each woman, each pregnancy, each baby and each labor is unique, so it follows that there can’t be just one way to have a baby. We believe in educating and supporting pregnant families so that they can then trust their instincts to make the best choices for themselves, their family and their baby.

DayOne suggests:

  • Choose a health care provider who welcomes your questions and supports your choices within the realm of safety for mom and baby.
  • Attend childbirth classes and learn how your body was made to give birth!  DayOne offers a one-day intensive Childbirth Preparation course designed to include many different approaches to help your labor proceed more quickly and the tools used in labor, including medications. Here, you can also meet other couples due at the same time while experiencing the ongoing support of DayOne through pregnancy and baby’s first year.
  • Consider hiring a birth doula (a woman trained to support pregnant women through labor and birth).  Doulas can be helpful in reducing anxiety, providing physical comfort to you throughout labor and birth, and supporting your partner throughout the process.  Interview several birth doulas to find the right match for your personality/preferences and needs.
